Experience the Difference of Italian Made
Over 90 pairs of hands will touch every Valdo frame throughout its journey to life. It’s the skillful combination of traditional hand-crafted techniques with carefully selected modern technology that makes a Valdo frame not just something beautiful to own, but practical and durable enough to incorporate into your daily wardrobe.
A Legacy of Craftsmanship
With techniques passed down from generation to generation, every Valdo frame tells of a legacy of craftsmanship. Your frames begin their stories in world renowned facilities, nestled amidst the picturesque mountains of Italy and steeped in centuries of frame-making expertise. Here, in the historic homeland of eyeglasses, artisans transform raw materials into works of art. Using only the finest materials, including Italian acetate selected for its exquisite color palette and texture, your glasses take shape in the hands of highly skilled craftsmen who bring both tradition and innovation to every frame.
Precision in Design
What begins as a mere sketch on a piece of paper, each sample is brought to life by hand, allowing our designers to examine every curve and detail with a discerning eye. Artisans then fine-tune every aspect of the frame until it meets our exacting standards, resulting in a frame that not only looks good but rests comfortably on the face. The patience required throughout this process is a true labor of love, ensuring every detail is considered and every angle is refined.
Honed by Experience
Once every detail is confirmed, the frames are ready to be crafted. With hands honed by years of experience, acetate slabs are guided into a C&C machine—the only robotic part of the process—with precision and skill before they begin their transformation into a frame. At Valdo, we see technology is merely a companion to the quality of human technique. Over the course of the next few weeks, our frames will pass through the hands of over 90 artisans, each one infusing their expertise and passion into every detail.
Polished to Perfection
We take our time throughout the polishing and finishing stages because it results in a higher-quality frame. Every raw frame front and temple goes through three separate tumbling processes where they slowly mingle with genuine wood chips and a clay paste. Each part is then filed and polished individually by hand to draw out the most sought-after features of a pair of frames - clarity, color and comfort. Though this process takes more time, the gentle tumbling and handwork results in frames that are deeper in hue, richer in finish and softer to the touch.
A Symphony of Parts
Once the parts have reached the desired look and feel, they are assembled into wearable frames. The hinges and core wires are pressed in by hand, with the help of a machine, to ensure each piece is perfectly aligned. Screws are tightened, metal décor is applied, lenses are placed, and the assembled glasses are hand-polished one last time before heading to their final adjustments.
Art in the Details
Italian craftsmanship is just one facet of what distinguishes our frames. Our distinct aesthetic draws inspiration from the intrinsic intertwining of design and style in everyday life. Learn more about how we infuse art into every detail.
